It's been a while since we've introduced a new label into the quarters boutique space, and after a few months' wait, we're proud to welcome Bedwin The HeartBreakers and sister label Deluxe The Street Tailor into the formidable quarters brands listing.
I had the chance to sit and chat with Bedwin's lead designer and founder Masafumi "Bebetan" Watanabe a couple of times this year, a man who enjoys somewhat of a following over in his hometown of Tokyo, both in the fashion and social circles. After spending some time abroad in the UK, his first foray into fashion was as one of the original founders and designers of TENDERLOIN, one of the Japanese fashion scene's most enigmatic brands which today enjoys an almost cult status amongst even the most glazed over Urahara fashion junkies. After parting ways with Tenderloin, Bebetan took his design vision and created BEDWIN: THE HEARTBREAKERS, followed by DELUXE THE STREET TAILOR, whose head designer Hue also came from Tenderloin's ranks.
Both brands share similar aesthetics - an Americana feel, but complimented with Japanese craftsmanship. DELUXE however exhibits a more vintage outlook, with most of Hue's inspiration drawn from the 50's and early 60's fashion & music trends - Rock 'n Roll, Motorcycles, Hot rods, the rebellious cultural movement that changed American youth after the end of WWII. BEDWIN delves more into a more gentlemanly look, taking inspiration from different periods and eras and mixing it in with their own unique style, which some in the industry have referred to as "Bebe style".
Much like the rest of the Japanese brands we hold in store, the quality and overall construction of the garments are some of the best we've seen, with no corners cut and every detail looked after.
In the past couple of years, BEDWIN and DELUXE have become one of the big movers in the next generation to emerge from the notoriously saturated Japanese street fashion scene. After developing the brand for a number of years and growing it slowly, it has become one of the most visible and sought after labels on the street level there - acclaimed by critics, journalists and fans alike.
Another one of the great things about BEDWIN and DELUXE is that pricing also comes in at a very reasonable rate for a Japanese brand of its level. With shirts starting from $280, and jackets from $400 up, we're not sure if we believe it ourselves. The sizing also goes up to a XXL (size 5) for BEDWIN, which is quite rare for a Japanese brand, which means it fits well with European/taller figures.
